If you are reading this, then you must have heard about free tuition Universities in Germany. Now you need to know the processes and requirements for admission into the various schools.
I advise using the DAAD search portal if you want to apply for admission to these free-tuition universities in Germany.
You can look up any undergraduate or graduate (Masters’s or PhD) courses offered by these Universities using DAAD.
By entering a term like “Computer science,” “Engineering,” or any other field you are interested in on the left side of the page, this way you can refine your search results to only show courses connected to computer science or engineering.
Whatever term you select, you can further narrow your results (under Degree/level) by specifying whether you are looking for a Bachelor, Master, PhD / Doctorate, Prep Course, Language Course, or Short Course.
If you type Computer science above and then select Master, you will see Master’s courses in Computer science.
These German universities are not less rigorous than those that charge tuition, even though they are tuition-free. You must therefore be ready to meet all of the admissions requirements, just as you would for other universities. It is then important that you know the admission requirements.
To enrol in different programs and universities in Germany, there are some requirements. You can only be admitted if your academic records and test results meet a few minimal requirements.

Undergraduate Admission Requirements.
English/German Language Proficiency Test Result.
Birth Certificate (in Nigeria, from National Population Commission).
Medical Certificate showing how healthy an applicant is.
O’ level Results and Transcripts showing grades (in Nigeria, WAEC/NECO).
A Valid International Passport.
Postgraduate Admission Requirements.
English/German Language Proficiency Test Result.
Birth Certificate or Attestation of Birth (in Nigeria, from the National Population Commission).
Medical Certificate showing how healthy an applicant is.
O’ level Results and Transcripts showing grades (in Nigeria, WAEC/NECO).
A Valid International Passport.
Undergraduate Certificate.
Academic Transcript.
Two Recommendation Letters.
Statement of Purpose and/or Research Proposal.
Note that you have to send authenticated copies of these certificates.
Language Requirements (Germany and/or English)
You should look at the options under “Course Language” when looking for courses. If you don’t speak German, be sure to select the English option. There are some undergraduate and graduate-level courses offered in English at Germany’s tuition-free universities.
German universities need confirmation of English language ability when students apply for courses that are offered in English there. This condition does not apply to nations where English is the primary or native language.
Written Tests.
When it comes to language needs, options are typically available. The following are examples of typical ones. To be admitted, you must take the tests and meet the cutoff marks for one of the following.
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
- Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC).
- Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE).
- Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency (CPE).
- Business English Certificate (BEC).
Different schools and courses have different marks usually ranging from 79 to 110 out of 120. For example, Hamburg University of Applied Sciences accepts a TOEFL minimum score of 87 (Internet-based) for Biomedical Engineering, while for International Business Administration (MSc) at the European University Viadrina, Frankfurt the TOEFL score required is 100 points at the minimum.
Medium of Instruction Document
There are a few exceptions for students who were taught in English in their previous schools before applying for admission to Germany’s free tuition institutions. This is mostly dependent on the school to which you are applying; some accept it while others do not.
You can demonstrate this by obtaining a letter from your prior school confirming that you were taught in English throughout your previous education.
The paper is commonly titled “Medium of Instruction,” and it should be addressed “To Whom It May Concern” so that it can be used at any school.
Standardized Test Requirement.
For specific courses, some universities will demand the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) or the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). The prerequisites are determined by the course and the schools to which you are applying for admission.
